Top 10 Restaurants for Celeb Spotting in Mumbai

Pro tip: If you catch your favourite stars dining out, just act natural

Shraddha Varma

A trip around Mumbai—‘Mumbai Darshan’ it’s colloquially—is considered incomplete without a little celebrity spotting. Bollywood and TV stars in the city of dreams are practically everywhere; at supermarkets, shopping centers, and hotels; and for the most part, are immune to being gawked at. But if you want to avoid coming across as tourist-y and still catch a glimpse of your favourite famous faces, we suggest you head for a meal/drink to where they love to hang out.

We present to you Mumbai’s top 10 celebrity haunts.

Bastian, Bandra

Led by celebrity chef Kelvin Cheung, Bastian has been a celebrity hotspot and a delight for seafood lovers ever since the restaurant opened its doors in 2016. Bastian has been frequented by everyone from Shilpa Shetty, the Kapoor khandaan to heartthrob Ishan Khattar and stand-up comics Rohan Joshi and Kaneez Surka. In case you’re planning to head here, your best bet for star encounters would be the Sunday brunch at Bastian.

Psst… amid the not-so-subtle gawking, don’t forget to try the jumbo prawns they serve!

Yauatcha, Bandra Kurla Complex

This restaurant is a Chinese dim sum teahouse with a modern twist and their dim sums are worth every penny! That’s a major reason it is a huge hit with celebrities. Plus, they’ve got an exhaustive list of wines to add to the party. Some of the A-listers spotted here are Jacqueline Fernandez, Sanjay Dutt, Shraddha Kapoor, Shah Rukh Khan, Bipasha Basu and Priyanka Chopra

Hakkasan, Bandra

B-townies who are fans of authentic Cantonese cuisine swear by this food at Hakkasan. What adds to the whole experience is its luxe ambience. The chances of spotting Sonakshi Sinha, Ranbir Kapoor, Karan Johar, Shilpa Shetty, and Katrina Kaif are quite high. So, if one of these famous faces has your heart, do visit Hakkasan.

Soho House, Juhu

Mumbai's Instagram-ready Soho House is slowly and steadily becoming a sought-after place for stars. It is a members only club; however, its ground floor has an open-for-all cafe called Allis to chill and spot the who's who of the city. It serves modern Italian offerings such as pizzas, pasta, meatballs, and more.

Bayroute, Juhu and Cuffe Parade

Akshay Kumar, Twinkle Khanna, Janhvi Kapoor, Krystle D’souza, Siddharth Malhotra, Aditya Roy Kapur, Arjun Kapoor, Malaika Arora, Vicky Kaushal… phew! The list of celebrities regularly visiting the Juhu outpost of Bayroute is a long one. What brings them back, time and again, to the fine dining restaurant is its menu, loaded with delicious and comforting Mediterranean and Middle Eastern dishes.

Kitchen Garden by Suzette, Bandra

Inspired by the farm-to-table concept, this little café is a go-to for celebs who are looking for organic, healthy but lip-smacking food. Dia Mirza, Katrina Kaif, Malaika Arora, Aditya Roy Kapur, and Sara Ali Khan have been spotted here chowing down on their amazing salads and cold-press juices. What particularly works for us at Kitchen Garden by Suzette is its décor and ambience—think floor-to-ceiling windows, green lamps, and vibrant table settings. If you plan to visit this place, we suggest you park yourself at the al-fresco area, which is surrounded by pots of herbs like basil and mint.

Nara Thai, Bandra Kurla Complex

Nara Thai is one of the biggest celebrity magnets in Mumbai. Shahid Kapoor and Mira Kapoor, Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Malaika Arora, Arjun Kapoor, Sanjay Dutt, Priyanka Chopra, Nick Jonas—you name the celebrity and they are a regular at Nara Thai. What bring them here are the age-old Thai delicacies such as crispy fried morning glory, shrimp cakes, and river prawns in garlic with jasmine rice. Our favourite; however, is the delectable ice cream with Thai condiments.

Pali Bhavan, Bandra

Pali Bhavan is a hot fave of celebs Akshay Kumar, Twinkle Khanna, Jacqueline Fernandez, Sonam Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor, Amrita Arora, Richa Chadha, and Riteish Deshmukh. The fine dining restaurant serves contemporary Indian food in a quaint yet traditional setting. It is a great place for vegetarians and non-vegetarians alike.

Controversies aside, Olive also is a favourite hangout for the likes of Aamir Khan, Sonam Kapoor, Ranbir Kapoor, Madhuri Dixit, Varun Dhawan, Sonakshi Sinha, Kareena Kapoor Khan and Saif Ali Khan. People visit the place for its romantic décor, soothing music, and an interesting wine collection.

A millennial-favourite bistro, Sequel has achieved what many are still struggling to do—make healthy food appetising. The restaurant is known for its vegan and detox drinks and foods. The best time to visit Sequel is early mornings since many stars stop by for a post-work snack here.
