She and her husband actor Riteish Deshmukh made this a lifestyle choice in 2017. The celebrity couple has whole-heartedly embraced vegetarianism in order to live a healthier life. Genelia Deshmukh’s latest Instagram post reveals her reasons to go meat-free and the realisations she has had so far.

“Turning vegetarian was a choice I took a couple of years ago... I honestly thought it was going to be really really tough, but I was determined to make it work. On my journey, I realised the beauty of plants, the various colours I see through them, and eventually the nutrients I get through them, but most importantly I feel less cruel to animals..." read the post.

In her post, Deshmukh also wrote about her mother-in-law’s organic farming adventures and how the organic purple cabbages she grew at the farm are being relished in everyday meals. The actor also shared a picture of a delicious home-made cabbage soup, which her kids and she thought was a “unicorn colour”.

Genelia gave her followers a sneak peek of their farm at home. “I've heard of artificial colours being used in food to enhance colours and have been ever so against them, but here I had got to see a pure beautiful purple colour, a colour I never thought I would get so effortlessly, and to top it all it was super duper healthy ( literally farm to table.),” she added.

In an earlier interview with the Daily News & Analysis in 2017, her husband Riteish Deshmukh had revealed that while it was slightly difficult for him to turn vegetarian, mainly because he hated vegetables, compared to the Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na actor. He said, “Genelia is extremely great with diet, she’s fantastic with nutrition. She knows all the things that you should and shouldn’t eat.”

Not just the Deshmukhs but, over the years, many Bollywood celebrities such as John Abraham, Anushka Sharma, Shahid Kapoor, and Lisa Haydon, have chosen this diet and spoken about how they swear by vegetarianism to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
