How to Clean Spilt Liquid

Oops! Spilt oil all over the kitchen platform? Take a deep breath and read this!

Some things in life are inevitable. Spills in the kitchen are one of them. And while it can be quite distressing to clean up the mess while you are cooking, liquid spills make the task even more cumbersome. Don't worry as Chef Gautam Mehrishi has the perfect hack for you! All you need is some salt!

Take some salt and generously sprinkle it on the sides of the spill so that it stops flowing and spreading. And gradually go on sprinkling it towards the centre. Leave it for 10-15 minutes and soon you will see that the salt has soaked up all of the liquid. Magic? Nah, just the hygroscopic property of salt which absorbs all the moisture and makes the surface dry.

Don’t have salt? Fortunately, we have a few alternatives for you.

Dry Flour: Use any flour that is available and generously sprinkle it over the spill. It instantly absorbs the liquid and becomes semi-solid and can be easily collected together and discarded.

Cornstarch: Cornstarch is a thickening agent which on mixing with any liquid becomes pasty. It makes the cleaning up process very simple.

Baking Soda: Along with absorbing all of the moisture, baking soda’s abrasive property also gets rid of any stains. So use this if you spill a liquid that is likely to cause stains.

Bread: Have leftover stale bread? You can still make it useful by using it to clean your spills. Bread acts like a sponge and absorbs any moisture or liquid.

Once the mixture has been collected and discarded, use a dry tissue or a damp cloth to clean up the area.

So be it a gravy, some oil or milk, clean up any spill in an instant!
