Chris Martin and Gwyneth Paltrow might have been ahead of the rest of the world after all. When they named their daughter Apple in 2004, people couldn’t stop mocking them. And now, one prominent parenting website has declared food names for babies as a major trend of 2018. According to the website, names like Chip, Ceasar, Herb, Mac and Fig to be popular among baby boys while Olive, Peaches, Plum, Apricot, Rosemary and Berry to be popular among baby girls in the UK.

Whether its Drew Barrymore naming her daughter Olive or maverick chef Jamie Oliver choosing Honey and Rocket for his children’s names, the food-inspired naming trend seems to have begun in earnest. Jason Bateman’s daughter is called Maple while LOST actor Josh Holloway’s daughter is named Java.

The biggest influencers of the generation Kim Kardashian and Kanye West also call their daughter North as Nori that means sushi seaweed. The trend is less pronounced in India with most celebrities either choosing exotic names (Inaaya, Imara etc) or hyphenating parents’ names (Misha, Adira) but one of these days we’re guessing some Bollywood couple will start naming their child after a food dish and the rest of the country will follow soon after.

Unless Shahid Kapoor and Mira Rajput name their second child Piyush and start a new trend.

What about you? Do you know anyone named after any food dish? Let us know in the comments below.
