Following in the footsteps of her mother and veteran actor Neena Gupta, fashion designer Masaba Gupta is making her acting debut with a semi-fictionalised show, Masaba Masaba. Set to release on August 28, 2020, on Netflix India, the scripted series with tongue-in-cheek humour is an account of real-life moments from the celebrated designer’s personal and professional life. It features the mother-daughter duo playing fictionalised versions of themselves.
Netflix recently aired the trailer of the much-anticipated series on social media. This gave the audience a sneak peek into the highlights of Gupta’s life and the banter between the mother-daughter duo.

Talking about the series, Gupta said that sharing the screen space with her mom was “quite an experience”. The designer-turned-actor further added, “The series is a slice of our lives and reliving key moments, even though fictionalised, took me down the memory lane. The series is packed with a combination of laughter, tears, struggles and inspiration that I’m hoping will resonate with women around the globe.”
Masaba Masaba is written and directed by Sonam Nair, who is known for films such as Gippi and Khujli, and produced by Ashvini Yardi’s Viniyard Films. Apart from the Guptas, the show features actors Suchitra Pillai, Neil Bhoopalam, Tanuj Virwani, Shibani Dandekar and Gajraj Rao.
