We spoke to five Bangaloreans, foodies and enthusiasts, to get you real insider scoop.
Komal Basith, Founder of Jossbox
When she’s not busy reviewing the new nail colours to invest in this season or running a successful production agency, she digs her fingers at the some of the best places in the city.
“Sheridan Brass is a city-based country singer and karaoke superstar and he also helps his parents run Happy Tummies, which specialises in some of the best, most authentic Anglo-Indian food you’ve ever tried. The Brasses apparently turn every opportunity to cook into a party at home and some of that good juju seems to make its way into the food because every party I’ve ever had catered by them has always been a massive success, with literally every guest raving about how good the food is."
“The Malayali fare at the Gateway Hotel’s Karavalli (previously the Taj Gateway) is often raved about - and for good reason. But Ente Keralam gets my vote for the best Malayali food in town. Of special note is the King’s Thali, served only on weekends and only in the evening, which gives you all day to work up an appetite. You’ll need it.”
“The ingredients are all organic and locally sourced and the results are delicious, not to mention a pleasure to look at. I love food that looks as good as it feels going down—I always leave Forage with a sense of satisfaction and wellbeing, even if I’ve ordered almost everything on the menu—and I often do.”
Sanchita Ajjampur, Fashion Designer
A fashion royalty, this super chic designer prefers food that, just like her clothes, feels, foremost good. Earlier last year she won the Italian Star of the Order, the second most prestigious civilian order. But closer home, she is as much of a local girl as you would expect her to be.
“In Indira Nagar is a nice, tucked away space that not too many people know about. Like the name suggests, it’s a place for yoga, quiet contemplation and healthy juices.”
“Also in Indira Nagar, for reasonably authentic Mexican.”
Amma’s Brahmin Café
“This is the real gem. Near Seshadripuram, a roadside eatery serving amazing idlis and dosas. I visit these often and happily.”

Sharon Tea Stall
“In New Thippsandra boasts a hundred teas (if I'm not mistaken) though I've only had their chai and mint lemon tea, it's been fantastic. Just a stand-up-drink kinda stall but has a wonderful personality for a quick chai-fix. Also if you go in the evening, there is a fellow right next door who makes wonderful bajji (Bhajia). Perfect for the city’s year-round slightly chill weather.”
“Not too far from Sharon Tea Stall, off Jeevan Bima Nagar main road, Leons has the most wonderful doners & wraps. I've eaten there countless times and my mouth still waters at the thought of it. I lived around the corner from the restaurant and I remember when it just started and I was excited that there was a yummy eatery that no one knew and now it's bustling!”
“Ok totally not a secret place and everyyyonneeee loves it. It's like a 'secret' place for everyone, so it's really not a secret. Just off CMH road and has the most wonderful gelato EVER! “
Nachiket Shetye, Chef
A former (?) party-boy and current owner of the culinary consulting firm Cellar Door hospitality, and the reason restaurant week exists in India; Shetye is no stranger to fine dining or authentic and eclectic taste. He brings with him a refined palate and a curated list. In his own words, “Bangalore is one of my favorite food cities for the sheer variety of cuisines on offer, some of my hidden favorites are as follows”
“Korean Restaurant. Its a home-style restaurant that has some really amazing Bulgogi and Seafood Dubu Hotpot. Yum.”
Hatch Public House
“A fun place to have a few drinks and some really amazing Andhra Style Chili Chicken.”

Deepti Katragadda Das, Partner at Lady Baga
She may be new to the food scene but her LSE degree, early training with the Olive group and impeccable instinct make up for it. Her ease with numbers helps her bring method to the madness, that is the food industry. Her first baby, Lady Baga brings Goa to Bangalore at Lavelle Road in Bangalore.
“Bangalore being the melting pot for a huge number of cuisines, one is spoilt for choice, but very few really capture the audience and pull you back time and again.
“This place has been one of the most consistent hidden jewels in Bangalore. A small hole in the wall (now renovated) has a small but absolutely delicious menu.”
