Ditch the special menu at restaurants, instead create a lavish tricolour spread at home.

There has to be a special way to celebrate the nation’s 68th Republic Day. If chilling out with family is how you plan to spend the long weekend ahead, here are ideas that will make sure you don’t have to leave home and still feel pampered. Get the partner and kids involved, we’re looking at a fun ride ahead.

Soup: Spinach soup, pumpkin soup or clear soup with shredded chicken.

Salad: Tri-colour pasta salad, green salad, or watermelon, feta and basil salad

Appetizers: Bell peppers, paneer and capsicum skewers; red chilli chutney, mayonnaise and green chutney sandwich; marinated tri-coloured chicken; or tri-coloured idlis.

Main course

Options: Three-layered Biryani, palak pooris with paneer tikka, rice with red and green Thai curry and fried rice with carrots and beans.

We love them desserts, don't we?

Options: Tiranga ice cream with three different flavours, three-layered cheesecake, Falooda, cupcakes with tricolour icing; or fruit platter with papaya, banana and kiwi.

Call some friends over and make it memorable! Happy Republic Day!
