Whiskey sour: This one’s a popular drink. In a cocktail shaker filled with ice, mix 50ml whiskey, 20ml lemon juice and 20ml sugar syrup. Shake well and serve, topped with a cherry and a slice of lime in an old fashioned glass.

Manhattan: Fill ¼th of a martini glass with rye whiskey. Add two tablespoons sweet vermouth and two dashes (a dash roughly measures ¼ teaspoon) of Angostura bitters. Top it with ice, stir and serve.

Old fashioned: Fans of Mad Men will love this. This classic drink is easy to make. Mix a small teaspoon of sugar with little water in a whiskey glass, add two dashes bitters, ice, lemon rind or peel, 60ml whisky, stir and serve.

Mint Julep: Crush a few mint leaves and mix in a tablespoon of sugar syrup in a tall glass. Add some crushed ice and pour in three tablespoons of cognac. Stir in two tablespoons of whiskey and serve.
