If red hearts and roses are not your thing, we understand! There are plenty more exciting ways to show the love

1. Renew your vows at Dishkiyaoon

You can have a lot of fun with them, and we leave it to you to create the mood: you may want to make it a laugh-out-loud occasion for the two of you, or prefer some tear-jerking mush, or just borrow the readymade vows at the makeshift chapel at Dishkiyaoon restobar, Bandra. Then it’s time to indulge in the special Valentine’s menu (thermidor of Atlantic king prawns with multigrain toast and parmesan cream, braised leg of chicken with mulled wine and sour cherry mascarpone martini).

2. Take up a challenge
Forget picking out the perfect gift, composing a sentimental love note or planning a dinner! If you’re the couple that loves a good duel, head to Smaaash for a game of bowling or go-karting. After a thrilling sweat session, you can sit back for a four-course meal.

Cooking up a meal can be a lot of pressure for the boys here, but on the upside, you can look at it as your prime time to shine and score. At Palate Culinary Academy, the ladies can relax with a book or a spa treatment, while the men cook up a four course meal in the kitchen, with ample help from LF chef Rakhee Vaswani. The menu: Roasted pumpkin soup with hand-made focaccia bread, salad of Romanov lettuce and herbed veggies, jerk spiced cottage cheese on a bed of curried quinoa (chicken for the non-vegetarians) and a dessert.

Where: Palate Culinary Academy, 6th floor, Saffron Building, Above US Polo Assn, Linking Rd, Khar West. Mumbai.

Cost: Rs 4000 for a couple.

Timing: 5.30 pm onwards

4. Find your way out of a locked room

If you want to avoid crowded restaurants on Valentine’s Day (did we hear a vehement yes!), head to the fascinating world of Narnia, The Mummy or Illuminati at The Amazing Escape. You are locked in the themed rooms for an hour (but be warned, Big Brother is watching!). To escape, you need to put on your Sherlock hat and start searching for clues. Oh did we mention that you will be handcuffed with your partner? No? Ok, that’s all we can reveal!

Where: The Amazing Escape, Basement, Trade House, Kamala Mills, Senapati Bapat Marg, Lower Parel, Mumbai.

Cost: Rs. 2500 per couple
