Ukdiche Modak
Sweet dumplings stuffed with grated coconut and jaggery are an inseparable part of the celebrations in one of India's major festivals.

  • FOR dough
  • 1 cup rice flour
  • ½ tsp ghee
  • 1 cup water
  • FOR Filling
  • 1 cup Desiccated coconut
  • 50 gm jaggery
  • Ghee
  • FOR Garnish
  • Jaggery
  • Saffron

    In a saucepan add an equal quantity of water and rice flour.
  2. 2

    Mix well and set aside in a bowl.
  3. 3

    Add ghee and make a soft dough.
  4. 4

    For the filling, heat a separate pan.
  5. 5

    Add the desiccated coconut and chopped jaggery , mix well and set aside.
  6. 6

    Coat the moulded dough with the ghee.
  7. 7

    Roll the dough into little balls.
  8. 8

    Place them in the modak mould with the fillings , shape them into a modak.
  9. 9

    Steam the modaks in a steamer for about 5 6 minutes.
  10. 10

    Set aside in a serving dish.
  11. 11

    Garnish with the jaggery and the saffron.
