Onion Chutney

A chutney is a perfect side dish for idli, dosa, paranthas and vadas. This Onion Chutney is no exception. Made with onions, Bengal gram dal, red chillies and tamarind, this chutney is sweet, spicy and tangy.

INGREDIENTS

  • FOR the chutney
  • 2 tsp oil
  • 3-5 dry red chillies
  • 2 tsp bengal gram
  • 6-7 garlic cloves
  • 1 cup chopped onions
  • 1 tamarind
  • salt
  • water
  • FOR the tempering
  • 2 tsp oil
  • 1 tsp mustard seeds
  • 3-5 curry leaves

HOW TO PREPARE ONION CHUTNEY

  1. 1

    Heat oil in a saucepan. Add red chillies, bengal gram, chopped garlic cloves and chopped onions. Sauté them well.

    Transfer this mixture into a mixer grinder. Then, add tamarind, salt and water. Grind it to a smooth paste and transfer the blended mixture into a bowl.
  3. 3

    For the tempering: Heat oil in a saucepan. Add mustard seeds and curry leaves. Sauté them well.
  4. 4

    Pour this tempering over the blended onion mixture in the bowl and mix it well with a spoon.
