INGREDIENTS

  • FOR Niter Kibbeh (Spiced Butter)
  • 500 gms Unsalted Butter
  • 2 tsp chopped Garlic
  • 1 tbsp chopped Onion
  • 1 tsp Fenugreek Seeds
  • 4 to 5 Black Cardamom
  • 1 tsp Dried Oregano
  • 1 tsp Turmeric Powder
  • 5 to 8 Black Pepper Corn (Whole)
  • 15 gms Ginger
  • 1 tsp All Spice Powder.
  • FOR Berbere Spice Mix
  • 1 tbsp Coriander Seeds
  • 1 tbsp Black Pepper Corn
  • 1 tbsp Fenugreek Seeds
  • 1 tbsp Chilli Powder
  • 3 to 4 Cardamom Seeds
  • 4 to 5 Cloves
  • 1 tbsp All Spice Powder
  • 1 tbsp Ginger Powder
  • 2 tbsp Onion Powder
  • 1 tsp Garlic Powder
  • 1 tsp Salt.
  • FOR Misr Wat
  • 1 chopped Onion
  • 1 tsp chopped fresh Garlic
  • 2 tbsp Berbere Spice Mix
  • 1 chopped Tomato
  • 1 cup Red Lentil (Soaked)
  • As Needed Oil
  • As Needed Water.
  • FOR Garnish
  • Sour Cream
  • Fresh Mint Sprigs
  • Cheddar Cheese

HOW TO PREPARE MISR WAT

  1. 1

    For Niter Kibbeh (Spiced Butter):In a pan, add butter, finely chopped garlic, chopped onion, fenugreek seeds, black cardamom, dried oregano, turmeric powder, black pepper corn, crushed ginger, all spice powder and cook on low flame for about 30 minutes.

    Strain the niter kibbeh and store for use.

    : For Berbere:{Blend together, coriander seeds, black pepper corn, fenugreek seeds, chilli powder, cardamom seeds, cloves, all spice powder, ginger powder, onion powder, garlic powder, salt.

    Empty the berbere spice mix in a bowl.
  5. 5

    For Misr Wat:{In a pan warm oil, add finely chopped garlic, chopped onion and sauté.
  6. 6

    Add berbere spice mix and sauté.
  7. 7

    Add chopped tomato, soaked whole red lentils, water and let it cook.
  8. 8

    For Serving:{Pour the misr wat in a serving bowl.
  9. 9

    Put 1 tbsp of niter kibbeh on top and garnish with sour cream and fresh mint sprigs.
  10. 10

    Put some cheddar cheese cubes inside the misr wat.
