INGREDIENTS

  • FOR boiling of Kathal
  • 1 kg Jackfruit, roughly cut into pieces
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp turmeric
  • 1 mace
  • 1 stick cinnamon
  • 3-4 green cardamom & 1 black cardamom
  • 6 - 8 cloves
  • 1 tsp black peppercorns
  • FOR gravy
  • 4 tbsp mustard oil
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 1 black cardamom & 3-4 green cardamom pods
  • 1 stick cinnamon & 6 - 8 cloves
  • 1 tsp black peppercorns
  • 2 large grated onion
  • 1 green chilli
  • 1tbsp ginger garlic paste
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • 1 tsp red chilli powder
  • 3 large tomatoes puree
  • ½ lemon juice & ½ tsp amchur
  • 1 tsp Kasuri methi
  • Salt
  • FOR Kathal Kofta
  • Boiled Kathal
  • 250 gm boiled and mashed Potato
  • 1 finely chopped onion
  • 2 finely chopped green chilli
  • 1 tsp grated ginger & 1 tsp garlic chopped
  • 1 tsp red chilli powder
  • Slat as per taste
  • 1 tsp jeera powder
  • Few chopped springs coriander
  • 2 tsp rice flour
  • 1 tsp amchur powder

HOW TO PREPARE KATHAL KOFTE

  1. 1

    Boil the jackfruit along with salt, turmeric powder, mace, cinnamon, green & black cardamom, cloves and black peppercorns.

    Cook the jackfruit until it turns soft.

    Add the boiled jackfruit in the bowl.
  4. 4

    Add mashed potatoes, green chillies, finely chopped onion, ginger, garlic, red chilli powder, salt as per taste, cumin powder, coriander leaves and mix it well.

    Add rice flour and mix it well.
  6. 6

    Add dry mango powder, lemon juice and mix again.
  7. 7

    Make small balls of the dough and deep fry it until it turns golden brown.
  8. 8

    In a pan, add mustard oil and let it heat.
  9. 9

    Add bay leaves, black & green cardamom, cloves, black peppercorns and let it roast.

    Add grated onions and cook it until it turns light brown.
  11. 11

    Add green chilli and red chilli and mix it well.
  12. 12

    Add chopped garlic, ginger-garlic paste and saute.
  13. 13

    Add water, turmeric powder, coriander powder, red chilli powder and let it cook.

    Add tomato puree, water and let it cook.
  15. 15

    Add salt as per taste, kasuri methi, dry mango powder, lemon juice and let it cook for 2 - 3 minutes.

    Add the fried kofta in the gravy and mix.

    Serve it hot and garnish with coriander leaves.
