  • For red paruppu podi
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • 2 tbsp white gram
  • ½ tbsp bengal gram
  • 2 tbsp split red gram
  • 8-10 dry red chillies
  • ½ tsp asafoetida
  • salt
  • 2 tbsp clarified butter
  • For green paruppu podi
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • 1 tbsp split red gram
  • 1 tbsp whole white gram
  • 1 dry red chilli
  • ½ tbsp asafoetida
  • 1 cup dried curry leaves
  • salt to taste
  • 2 tbsp clarified butter

    In a pan add oil and roast together the white gram, Bengal gram and split red gram, remove it in a bowl and then roast the dry red chillies.

    Grind together the roasted grams, salt, asafoetida and chillies.

    In pan, roast split red gram, whole white gram and dry red chilli in oil and then grind them with asafoetida, curry leaves and salt.

    Now fry some idlis in the red paruppu podi pan and some int green paruppu podi pan and serve these idlis with red and green paruppu podi.
