Chettinad Style Biryani

  • 3 to 4 green chilies
  • 1/4 cup coriander leaves
  • 1/4 cup mint leaves
  • 1/2 inch chopped ginger
  • 8 to 10 garlic cloves
  • 200 gms button mushrooms
  • 1/4 tbsp coriander powder
  • 1/4 tbsp turmeric powder
  • 1/2 tbsp red chilli powder
  • 1/2 tbsp garam masala
  • 2 to 3 tbsp fresh yogurt
  • 3 tbsp Oil
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 1 tbsp fennel Seeds
  • 6 to 8 cloves
  • 8 to 10 peppercorns
  • 4 to 5 green cardamoms
  • 1 strand mace
  • 1 Inch cinnamon stick
  • 1 cup sliced onions
  • 1/2 cup chopped tomatoes
  • 1/2 cup thick coconut milk
  • Salt
  • 1 cup cooked rice
  • 1 cup water
  • coriander leaves

    For the chutney: Grind chopped mint leaves, chopped coriander leaves, chopped ginger, green chilies, garlic cloves and water in a mixer grinder

    Grind all the ingredients well
  3. 3

    For the mushroom marination: In a mixing bowl, add button mushrooms, the prepared chutney, coriander powder, turmeric powder, red chili powder, garam masala and curd
  4. 4

    Mix well and let it marinate for 30 to 40 minutes
  5. 5

    For the biryani: Heat oil in a non-stick cooking pot
  6. 6

    Add bay leaves, fennel seeds, cloves, peppercorns, green cardamoms, mace and cinnamon stick
  7. 7

    Saute it for 2 to 3 minutes
  8. 8

    Then, add sliced onions, chopped tomatoes, the marinated mushroom mix, coconut milk, salt, cooked rice and water
  9. 9

    Mix it well
  10. 10

    Cover and cook for 6 to 8 minutes
  11. 11

    Your Chettinad style biryani is ready to be served
