This creamy pahadi dal from Uttarakhand is made from Urad dal and cooked during winter.

  • 1 cup Urad Dal
  • ½ cup Black Eyed Beans
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • 2 Dry Red chillies
  • 1 tsp Black Peppers
  • 1 tsp Cumin seeds
  • 1 tsp Asafoetida
  • 1 tbsp Garlic
  • Water
  • 1 tsp Coriander powder
  • 1 tsp Turmeric powder
  • Salt
  • 1 tbsp ghee
  • 1 tsp Garam Masala powder

    In a pan dry roast Urad Dal and black eyed beans and make a powder in a grinder.

    In a pan warm oil, add dry red chillies, black peppers, cumin seeds, asafoetida, garlic, daal powder and fry.
  3. 3

    Add water, coriander powder, turmeric powder, salt, mix and let it cook of low flame for 10 to 15 minutes.

    Once daal is cooked add garam masala powder.
  5. 5

    Garnish Chainsoo with ghee and serve hot.
