INGREDIENTS

  • ½ cup Yam
  • 1 Onion
  • 1 Sweet Potato
  • 1 tsp Turmeric Powder
  • 1 tsp Madras Curry Powder
  • 1 Granny Smith Apple
  • 100 gms Chicken (Minced)
  • 1 cup Pie Lentils
  • 2 tbsp Fresh Bread Crumb
  • 100 ml Milk
  • 2 to 3 Dried Apricots
  • 20 gms Almonds
  • 10 gms Sultanas
  • 1 Egg
  • 3 Eggs
  • to taste Salt
  • As Required Water
  • 5 to 6 Garlic cloves
  • 5 to 6 Bay Leaves
  • 1 tsp Chilli Powder
  • 1 tbsp Oil
  • 350 ml Milk
  • To Taste Black Pepper
  • 2 tbsp Shredded Cheese
  • For Accompaniments Curd and banana raita
  • Kachumber Salad
  • Geelrys Yellow Rice

HOW TO PREPARE BOBOTIE

  1. 1

    In a pan warm oil, add 1 chopped onion, 1 tsp of turmeric powder and madras curry powder respectively and add little water, sauté.
  2. 2

    Add 1 chopped apple, 100 grams chicken mince, ½ cup diced yam, 1 peeled and sliced sweet potato, 1 cup soaked Masoor Dal and cook.
  3. 3

    Add fresh bread crumbs, milk, salt to taste, little water and mix the ingredients well.
  4. 4

    Add chopped dried apricots, roasted almond and sultanas, one egg and mix well.
  5. 5

    In another pan warm oil add 1 tbsp sliced garlic, 5 to 6 bay leaves,1 tsp chilli powder and pour it on vegetable mixture.

    In a bowl break 3 eggs, add 350 ml milk, salt to taste and crushed black pepper, 50 grams shredded cheese, whisk all ingredients together and pour it over vegetables covering the whole dish.

    Bake at 180 degrees for 45 minutes.
  8. 8

    Serve hot bobotie with Curd and banana raita, Kachumber Salad and Geelrys (Yellow Rice).
