INGREDIENTS

  • ½ cup yam
  • 1 onion
  • 1 sweet potato
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp madras curry powder
  • 1 granny smith apple
  • 100 gm chicken (minced)
  • 1 cup pie lentils
  • 2 tbsp fresh bread crumb
  • 100 ml milk
  • 2 to 3 dried apricots
  • 20 gm almonds
  • 10 gm sultanas
  • 1 egg
  • 3 eggs
  • to taste salt
  • water
  • 5 to 6 garlic cloves
  • 5 to 6 bay leaves
  • 1 tsp chilli powder
  • 1 tbsp oil
  • 350 ml milk
  • to taste black pepper
  • 2 tbsp shredded cheese
  • For accompaniments
  • curd and banana raita
  • kachumber salad
  • geelrys yellow rice

PREPARATION

    In a heated pan, add oil, chopped onion and let it turn translucent. Add turmeric powder, madras curry powder and mix it well. Add chopped apple and mix it.

    Add minced chicken, chopped yam, sweet potato.

    Add pie lentil and toss it nicely.
  4. 4

    Add fresh bread crumbs, milk, salt as per taste, water and mix it well.

    Add chopped apricots, almonds, sultanas and mix it well.

    Add egg and mix it nicely.

    Add salt as per taste and mix.

    In a pan, add oil, garlic cloves, bay leaves, red chilli powder and toss it.

    Add the mixture in the pan.

    In a pan, add eggs, milk, crushed black pepper powder, salt as per taste, shredded cheese and mix it well.

    Pour the batter in the pan and bake it in the oven at 180'C for 45 minutes.

    Serve the Bobotie with rice.
