  • 2 to 3 tbsp oil
  • 1 cup split orange lentils
  • boiled
  • 1 tsp jaggery
  • 2 kokam
  • ½ tsp red chilli powder
  • ½ tsp garam masala
  • ½ tsp turmeric powder
  • salt to taste
  • For the Masala 2 to 3 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 tsp coriander seeds
  • 1 tsp finely chopped ginger
  • 2 dry red chillies
  • 1 cup sliced onion
  • 1 cup grated coconut
  • water
  • For Tempering1 tsp oil
  • ½ tsp cumin seeds
  • 10 to 12 curry leaves
  • For Servinggrated coconut
  • chopped coriander

    For the masala heat vegetable oil in a pan.

    Add coriander seeds finely chopped ginger, dry red chillies, and sliced onions.
  3. 3

    Saute till the onions turn golden brown and then add grated coconut.
  4. 4

    Blend this mixture with some water to make a smooth paste.
  5. 5

    Heat oil in a pot and fry the blended paste.
  6. 6

    Add boiled split orange lentils water, jaggery, kokam, garam masala, red chilli powder, turmeric powder, and salt.

    Stir the dal well.
  8. 8

    Heat oil in a pan.
  9. 9

    Add cumin seeds chopped garlic, and curry leaves.
  10. 10

    Fry till fragrant and add this tempering to the dal.
  11. 11

    Garnish with grated coconut and chopped coriander.

    Serve hot in a bowl.
